Facilities include the Noshiro Nebu Nagashi Hall, which displays Noshiro kites decorated with Berabo faces and traditional parade floats used in the long-held Nebu Nagashi festival; an ""ancient forest"" modeled after the Carboniferous Period; an exhibition hall where you can learn about energy consumption; and a gallery which provides information on the Noshiro Thermal Power Plant and environmental initiatives. Famed for its sake and samurai, Akita prefecture offers quintessential Japanese culture in a non-touristy setting. Alongside the celebrated rice paddies and historical sites of the region lies dramatic natural scenery in the form of the rugged coastline of the Oga Peninsula and the Dakigaeri Gorge, best visited in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color.
