Hinokage-Onsen Station (日之影温泉駅)

4.0

Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath

An unusual hot spring bathhouse operating out of the Hinokage-Onsen Station building on the closed Takachiho Railway Takachiho Line. The bathing facilities are on the second floor and include a large indoor bath, super jet bath, and sauna. Bathers in the outdoor bath can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of the Gokase River and nearby mountains. The waters of the bathhouse' alkaline simple spring are said to treat such ailments as nerve pain, muscle soreness, and aid in the recovery from fatigue. Additional facilities include a free rest lounge, local specialty products gift shop, and restaurant. There's also a free footbath in the station platform area.

An unmissable highlight of Kyushu, Miyazaki prefecture satisfies nature lovers with its dramatic gorges cut out of rugged cliffs, leading into waterfalls and beaches of green-blue water popular among surfers. Takachiho Gorge in the north of the prefecture tells a tale of centuries-old Japanese mythology in a fantastic setting, allowing visitors to explore the waters by boat before heading up to the cave at the Awano Iwato Shrine, where the sun goddess was said to have hidden, plunging the world into darkness.
