Shiroyama Park Horinouchi District

Park / Green Space
An urban park sprawling in the Sannomaru on the west side of Matsuyama Castle. Surrounded by earthen walls and enclosed by a moat, the Horinouchi area was completed in 1605 and was built to serve as a palace for feudal lords, a residence for retainers, and as a government facility for the domain where rice was stored. Today, the area is maintained as a field where visitors can enjoy light exercises like running and playing catch. The park is also used for events on weekends and serves as a space for local residents to rest and relax. In spring, many cherry trees bloom in the park, and it has even been selected as one of the Japan Top 100 Sakura Viewing Sites. When the trees are flowering, the park bustles with large numbers of visitors come to see the blossoms.
