Katahara Onsen Ajisai no Sato (形原温泉あじさいの里)
4.0
A renowned destination for enjoying bigleaf hydrangea in Katahara Onsen. The area around Hodagaike Pond in the center of the hot spring district is maintained as a bigleaf hydrangea garden and has become a famous sightseeing spot. At the present time, more than 50 thousand hydrangea plants of varying colors and sizes are grown around the pond. The best time to see the hydrangea flowers is from June 1 to 30, and during this time a hydrangea festival is also held in the area. Special busses operate during the festival and a variety of events like haiku recitations and rare hydrangea exhibitions are held. At night, the area is lit up, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the beauty of the hydrangea in a way different from that of the day.

Aichi Areas

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
