Ino Tadataka Memorial Hall
This museum showcases the achievements of Ino Tadataka who created the first surveyed map of Japan. It is located south of JR Sawara Station on Prefectural Road 55, across the river from his former residence. The memorial is divided into periods depicting Tadataka's life until he was 50 years old and the period incorporating his work on the national survey. It also features interesting aspects of his life such as his character and the fact that he traveled to various shrines and temples starting in his 30s. There is also a display of his journals and the tools he used for surveying, and you can compare his map to others of the period from around the world to understand the extent of his precision.
