A Japanese confectionary shop which has been in business since the Meiji period. “Jumbo mochi” specialty shop, the establishment only sells jumbo mochi. Consisting of bite sized balls of mochi (glutinous, pounded rice), jumbo mochi are lightly grilled before eating and covered in sauces such as sweet miso, zarame brown sugar, and kudzu. After the Satsuma Rebellion during the Meiji period, it is said these sweets were first created by a former guard of the inner garden of the Sengan-en garden. The 12 mochi plate, which comes garnished with pickles for cleansing the palate, is particularly popular. The shop’s wares are also available for takeout.

仙巌園-集成館寄ったあとに行きました。歩いても行ける距離ですが、タクシーでそのまま鹿児島駅まで行きました。味は予想通り普通のみたらし団子でした。

仙巌園から歩いて行きました。お昼代わりにと思い、店内で一皿食べました。量が多くて食べられるか心配になりましたが、温かいお餅とみたらしがよく絡んでいて、美味しく食べきれました。店内はテーブルと、奥に縁側というか座敷があり通りを挟んですぐ向かい側が海です。食べてる間も、車で通りがてらお餅を買って行く人が多く地元の方にも人気なんだろうなと思いました。

店構えに老舗の雰囲気を感じます。両棒餅はみたらし団子とは似て異なるものでした。その場で焼いてもらえる一口サイズのお餅と甘いタレが絶妙でした。あっと言う間に食べてしまいます。
