Kikuchi Shrine菊池神社

Shrine

This Shinto shrine is located in Kikuchi City. Founded in 1870, it honors three feudal lords of the Kikuchi clan who fought on the southern side during the period of the Northern and Southern dynasties (1336–1392) The Kikuchi Jinja History Museum on the precincts displays valuable items tied to the clan and other historical cultural assets. It's also a popular cherry blossom viewing spot and gets crowded in spring when they're in bloom.

皇族に忠義を尽くした菊池一族を称え、明治天皇の命により創建されました。
南北朝時代、南朝方の武将、菊池武時、武重、武光が主祭神として祀られています。
境内にある歴史館には、菊池一族ゆかりの宝物、文化財が収蔵されています。
歴史館入館料:大人300円、大学・高校200円、小・中学生100円でした。
明治維新の立役者西郷隆盛も菊池一族の末裔と伝わっていますが...
