51号線の中九州道が自動車専用道になり、ここがトイレ休憩をかねた立ち寄り場所になりました。総菜、野菜などがあるよくある道の駅ですが、同じ敷地内にあるAコープが一般のスーパーで飲み物など豊富なので意外に重宝します。男性用トイレの天井に燕が巣を作っていて、ヒナを見ることができました。多目的トイレの上に男性用トイレとの間のガラス窓があり、そこからも巣の様子は見えます。

中九州道が開通して、ドライブや目的地への途中途中に立ち寄ることが少なくなり、今や穴場の道の駅です。小さい子どものいる家庭はオススメです。広い芝生の公園が併設され、子ども連れの来客も少ないので、遊具もほぼ貸し切り状態です。合間に道の駅で購入したフルーツやお菓子で時間を潰すこともできます。

『道の駅おおの』は、中九州自動車専用道路（無料犬飼から朝地町）が、朝地まで延長開通し、通過ＩＣと通過の道の駅に、なってしまっている。大分の一大農産地の大野であるが、乗降客も少なくなり、立ち寄る客も、落ち、品数も数量も減ったよう。熊本までの休憩地のひとつであったが。今の利用は、これまでと同様、田舎まんじゅう、おもち、『じり焼き』、シシャモのおにぎり、特に山菜おこわなどが、食べたく...
