Chinoike Jigoku
A facility adjoining Chinoike Jigoku, designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, situated along Prefectural Route 218 in Noda, Beppu City. Meaning “Pond of Blood Hell,” this natural “jigoku” (“hell”) hot spring is the oldest in Japan and is notable for its waters dyed a deep red by the red thermal mud deep underground.
