Kosuge Ship Repair Dock

"This historic building is located along National Route 499 in Kosuge-machi, Nagasaki City. It forms one of the sites of the ""Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution"" registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the aim of repairing steam ships the Satsuma Domain imported from overseas, its construction plan was advanced by Tatewaki Komatsu, Tomoatsu Godai and Thomas Blake Glover, and it was completed in 1869. It is known as the first slip dock in Japan equipped with hauling machinery powered by a steam engine. After it was sold to Mitsubishi in 1887, it closed in 1953."
