Chikurinzan Konomineji Temple
Temple
This temple on the side of Mt. Kounomine is located in Tounohama, Yasuda Town, Aki County. It is the 27th of 88 temples on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Originally built during the time of Empress Jingu as a Shinto temple, Buddhist images were later enshrined there together with Shinto deities by the Buddhist priest Gyoki. It was later established as a Buddhist temple by the monk Kobo Daishi. An anecdote exists about the mother of Iwasaki Yataro, the founder of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu, who visited the temple 21 days in a row to wish for her son’s success.
