South Alps National Park
It is a national park located in the mountainous area of the Southern Alps centering the Akaishi Mountains, attracting popularity mainly among climbers who have climbed many famous mountains such as the second highest mountain in Japan next to Mt. Fuji, Mt. Kitadake, Mt. Kaikoma, and Mt. Senjogatake. There are a variety of endemic plants and animals such as Kitadakesou (callianthemum hondoense), Ranunculus kitadakeanus (buttercup), and the Japanese black pine butterfly. There are two information centers in the area that exhibit materials about the nature and ecology of the Southern Alps. The center offers guidance on hiking and classes for nature walks.
