The Taketomi Folk Craft Museum was founded in 1972 with the aim of training craftspeople to carry on Taketomi Island’s traditional crafts, including the making of Yaeyama Minsah Cloth, Yaeyama Jofu Cloth (high-quality plain-woven hemp cloth), and Abaca Cloth, etc. The process for making Abaca Cloth is shown using explanatory display panels, and visitors can also watch displays of actual weaving loom use. Entrance to the museum is free.

島内の各施設が軒並み休業となっていましたが、民芸館だけはオープンしていました。「竹富町織物事業協同組合」の標識が架かっている通り、織物を中心に展示されている施設でした。
布を織るのを見学したり体験ができる施設

竹富町織物事業協同組合の施設。島の伝統の織物を紹介している。染めから織りまでの工程の説明の説明の展示やまた布を織るところの見学や織りの体験などもできる施設だ。私は時間がなかったにで簡単に展示を見学する程度で、体験はしなかった。
民芸品の織物の展示と機織り機の実演？

無料での見学が可能。館内は島の伝統工芸であるミンサー織や島伝統の織物を展示していた。訪問時は解説員らしい人はおらずただ見るだけ。また機織りも実演という感じには見えず、ただ機を織っている人はいた。
