Uwajima Castle

Castle / Ruins of Castle
"This castle was built around 1601 by famed castle builder Todo Takatora. The current castle tower was built by Munetoshi, second head of the Uwajima Date clan, in 1666, and is one of only 12 original castle towers still standing in Japan. Due to the towering figure of the chalk white tower standing on top of a mountain, the castle is also known as Tsurushima (""Crane Island"") Castle. The castle's tower has been designated a National Important Culture Property, and the castle in its entirety has also been designated a National Historic Site."
