Senyoji Temple is the 29th of 33 temples sacred to the bodhisattva Kannon in the Bando (Kanto) region. Founded in 709 by the monk Gyoki, it is the oldest temple in Chiba City. Its main image is that of the Eleven-Headed Kannon. On the temple grounds is an ancient gingko tree, 27 meters tall and 10 meters around, which is said to have been planted at the time the temple was founded. This famous tree has been designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument under the name of Senyoji Temple Ginkgo.
