This art museum was designed by architect Kuma Kengo. Originally an old stone warehouse it is almost entirely constructed out of stone. On display are stone works, interactive exhibitions, photographs, and drawings, and regular special events are held. There is also a cafe and shop.

隈さんの芦野の石の美術館

うちの近所に隈さんの角川武蔵野ミュージアムがあって同じようなテイストと思い行ってみました。英語表記がSTONE PLAZAとなっている通り、ショップには色々な石を売っていますが、美術館としては建物を鑑賞する感じかな。隈さんの建築が見たいと言う方以外はおすすめしません。外観としては中庭の池がポイント一番大きな建物の石蔵ギャラリーが木組みと石壁で、いかにも隈さんらしい建物ですね。
一見の価値ありです！

那須は那須といっても那須インターとは新幹線挟んで逆側なのでやや遠いですが、一見の価値ありです。隈研吾さんが独立10年後の作品です。隈さんが同美術館について自ら語るNHKのビデオが見れますが、彼の建築観が良くわかるものでそれだけでも訪れる価値があります。
