Tamaya Ryokan (玉屋旅館)

4.0

Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath

"A family-run traditional ryokan inn and restaurant located right next to Hitachi-Daigo Station on the JR Suigun Line. The inn is famous for its chicken hotpot made with local Okukuji Shamo chicken. Those who order this exquisite dish can enjoy the abundant natural and agricultural blessings of the Okukuji area alongside the hearty, tasty meat of a local chicken breed. The inn also offers yakitori skewers, tataki seared chicken, and chicken steaks made with Okukuji Shamo; no matter which you choose, you're sure to enjoy the firm, tasty meat. The ""Shamo Bento"" chicken bento box lunch is also quite popular and is the official train bento of Daigo."

Just a stone's throw from Tokyo, Ibaraki is a coastal prefecture that has mastered juxtapositions, where old shrines meet new scientific discoveries and traditional gardens are frequented by the inventors of some of the newest technology. Head to Mito City's Kairakuen - one of Japan's Three Great Gardens - in spring to experience the cellestial blooming of fantastic cherry blossoms at the annual sakura festival.
