Enoshima-jinja Shrine Okutsumiya

Shrine
The Okutsumiya is a Shinto shrine affiliated with Enoshima-jinja Shrine and is dedicated to the goddess Tagirihime no Mikoto. The original main shrine building burned down in 1841 and was rebuilt the following year in 1842. The highlight of the shrine is the painting of the “Happonirami no kame” (“All-seeing Turtle”) depicted on the ceiling of the front shrine. No matter from what angle you look at it, the turtle seems to be staring back at you. There is also an interesting stone block monument on the approach to the shrine carved with 36 monkeys.
