Walk and eat plan of Yuigahama-odori Avenue for "Kamakura-experts"
This plan is recommended for those who have enjoyed the classic trip to Kamakura and visited Komachi-dori Street at the east exit. The back of Kamakura called “ura” is a street running from the west exit of Kamakura Station to Yuigahama-odori Avenue and is a treasure trove of old-fashioned Japanese confectionary stores and takeout cuisine. The plan allows you to enjoy strolling around, eating a little and then walking a little.

- (Provided by service)This European curry specialty store along Yuigahama-odori Street, is a five-minute walk from Enoden’s Hase Station. It has a great reputation for carefully cooked authentic European curries, where one can feel the sweetness of vegetables and fruits. The chicken curry comes recommended, as the large piece of intact chicken is very juicy and can be gently broken up with a spoon. The rich special curry (1,250 yen) option where guests can choose their preferred curry to be topped with vegetables and a boiled egg is also popular.

- (Provided by service)A Japanese sweet shop a seven-minute walk from Hase Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway. The shop is located on the approach to Goryo-jinja Shrine, which is dedicated to the superhumanly strong Kamakura Gongoro Kagemasa, hence the shop’s name, which references chikara mochi, rice cakes said to fortify the body, and the Japanese term for someone who is strong. Chikaramochiya’s delicately flavored sweets, carefully homemade without additives, have been popular since the Edo period. The shop’s famed Gongoro chikara mochi are made with smooth strained sweet adzuki bean paste wrapped in mochi rice cake. If you will be eating them the same day, be sure to get the “nama” or fresh type, made with freshly pounded mochi. The gyuhi (rice flour) type keeps for three days and makes a great souvenir.

- (Provided by service)This is a taiyaki (fish-shaped pancake filled with bean jam) shop located along Yuigahama Odori, about three minutes on foot from Enoshima Dentetsu’s Yuigahama Station. Not only do they offer taiyaki made with carefully crafted honey-baked tsubuan (coarse red bean paste) and fresh, velvety smooth koshian (fine-grained sweet bean paste), they also have a full lineup of other items including natural yeast bread, yakisoba, and grilled piroshky. Guests will take joy in the sight of people in the neighborhood naturally congregate here to enjoy conversation with the jovial proprietor.

- (Provided by service)A three-minute walk from Yuigahama Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway. A rarity in the Kanto region, this shop makes and sells fresh fu (a type of wheat gluten dough). The shop’s fu manju buns, one for 180 yen purchasable at the shopfront, are made with smooth strained sweet adzuki bean pasted wrapped in fresh fu mixed with Japanese mugwort and other ingredients. The texture is superb. They are also perfect for enjoying on the go.
