When you think of Hiroshima, you probably think of the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. But the city has a lot more to offer than just those two places. While trams run from the front of stations to the major sights, riding a bike offers you the freedom to more thoroughly explore the city. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Cycling Course
This is the cycling course.(9km)

Start: 10:00 a.m. Namiki-dori
There’s no shortage of Cycle Ports along Namiki-dori, the street that serves as Hiroshima’s downtown area. Our course begins at 10 a.m., so there’s no need to roll out of bed super early. Have a little extra sleep time to make sure you’re rested for the day. Then stop in for breakfast at one of the many places on Namiki-dori to charge your batteries before finding a Cycle Port close by. Bike Rental has English instructions on their website to guide you through the process of using their electric-assisted bikes, so no need to worry about that part. Hop on and off we go!
We recommend branching at “Hiroshima Andersen”, the headquarters in Hiroshima.

Atomic Bomb Dome
Our sightseeing tour begins here: the Atomic Bomb Dome. Witness for yourself the disastrous remains of a building caught in the blast from the atomic bomb. Cross the bridge to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and walk through the Peace Memorial Park. It’s a somber experience that will change your outlook; offering your own thoughts and hopes for peace while you move through the park connects you to the past and entrusts you with the future. Take your time here. Let it sink in. Let it move you. This is the history we are all obligated to respect.

11:30 a.m. Hiroshima Museum of Art
Hiroshima Museum of Art
Hopefully the short ride over helped you switch gears a little. Next on our list is the Hiroshima Museum of Art, a modern, circular building with an attractive courtyard surrounding the space. Inside you’ll find an impressive assortment of Impressionist works, featuring art by Monet, Cézanne, and van Gogh, as well as dozens of other masterpieces from around the world. It’s an airy space with places to sit among the galleries and ponder the paintings for a longer moment. There are also rotating exhibitions in addition to the main collection, making it worth the trip even if you’ve been before. A must-see for art lovers.

12:30 p.m. Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle has an interesting history of supporting the people of Hiroshima, even after it was caught in the blast from the atomic bomb. The materials of the castle were highly heat resistant, so the majority of the main tower didn’t burn in the heat from the explosion, but was rather pushed down by the blast. Then the wood from the castle was used as much-needed material to rebuild structures or as firewood in the aftermath.
All of the castle you see today was reconstructed in 1958. Now it holds a museum detailing the history of the city before the bomb.Hiroshima Castle

2:00 p.m. Okonomimura
Okonomimura
You’re in Hiroshima, which means it’s okonomiyaki for lunch. For the unfortunately unacquainted, okonomiyaki is a savory pancake-like dish made on a hot plate at your table and consisting of a variety of ingredients. Hiroshima is famous for its particular style of okonomiyaki, which contains soba noodles. Okonomimura has over 20 well-renowned okonomiyaki restaurants, and you’ll want to try more than just one of them. Go for at least 2 or 3 different places and share with your friends to get the full experience. This is food tourism that can’t be missed. You’ll thank us later.

3:30 p.m. Hiroshima MOCA
Hiroshima MOCA
Time for an uphill ride to burn off those extra calories from your excellent lunch! The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art was designed by internationally-renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa. Even 30 years after its construction, the building still retains its original luster, and the architecture itself is worth seeing. Contemplate the inspired displays and interesting shapes of the museum’s main collection, and be sure to walk around to the art installations across the grounds. It’ll provide food for thought while you continue digesting the okonomiyaki.
After you’ve made your way through the MOCA, it’s off to our last stop.
