11 Best Places to See Hydrangeas (Ajisai) in Kanto Region

Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture is one of the most famous places for hydrangeas in Japan. Among them, Meigetsuin Temple is famous as a "hydrangea temple".

The 2,500 hydrangea plants that fill the precincts of the temple are nicknamed "Meigetsuin Blue". The hydrangeas that bloom on both sides of the stone steps are mainly of the ancient Japanese "Hime Hydrangea" variety, which is characterized by its gentle blue color.

Hasedera Temple in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a place with a spectacular view of hydrangeas with Yuigahama Beach in the background.
The path is filled with colorful hydrangeas on both sides and you can see rare varieties of hydrangeas, mainly Chinese hydrangeas and mountain hydrangeas. There are more than 40 varieties and about 2,500 hydrangeas in full bloom.

Sagamihara Kita Park, located in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is famous for its white hydrangeas. There are about 200 kinds of hydrangeas and 10,000 planted in the park. From the beginning of June, the mountain hydrangea, Chinese hydrangea, and Western hydrangea bloom in order, and by the end of the month, the pure white Annabelle variety is at its best. Fuchu Municipal Museum Kyodonomori in Fuchu City, Tokyo, is a large park that includes the museum, and the vast grounds are lined with old farmhouses, townhouses, and historical buildings associated with Fuchu. Minamisawa Ajisai (Hydrangea) Mountain is a mountain located in Akiruno City, renowned for its bigleaf hydrangeas. Located in Satte City, Saitama Prefecture, Satte Gongendo Tsutsumi is a famous flower spot in the Management Gongendo Park. It's a beautiful place for field mustard and cherry blossoms in the spring and higanbana (red spider lily) in the fall, but the hydrangeas in the rainy season are second to none.
The 16,000 hydrangeas of about 100 varieties are on a scale unmatched anywhere else in the Kanto region. The colorful hydrangeas that fill the slopes along the road are a sight to behold. The white flowers of the Annabelle variety are especially popular.

Minoyama Park is a prefectural nature park located at the summit of Mount Mino, a 581.5-meter-high mountain that straddles Chichibu City and Minano Town in Saitama Prefecture. 41 hectares of the park is filled with about 4,500 hydrangeas, decorating the entire slope of the mountain in blues. If lucky, visitors can even get shots of hydrangeas with the sea of clouds, so don't forget your camera.

Known as Hattori Farm Hydrangea Mansion, this is a unique hydrangea garden not like anything else. The owner of the garden has been steadily planting hydrangeas on his own, and now more than 10,000 hydrangeas of about 250 varieties are in full bloom.
