Are you tired of eating Japanese food? No worries! There are heaps of places where you can get non-Japanese breakfast in Naha! Fluffy pancakes, freshly made granola, cold pressed juice with locally grown vegetables…or even steaks! Many restaurants in Okinawa have a unique international atmosphere that can only be found on the island. Some places are pretty American! Here are our recommendations of places where you can start your day off well!

oHacorte Bakery- Naha
oHacorte Bakery
oHacorte Bakery will welcome you with its wood and brick interior. The atmosphere is stylish yet casual. Even though the staff are friendly, they are serious about their food. oHacorte never gives up on its mission to offer the best and tastiest food to you. They have a morning set meal with toasted bread. Besides the bread, their French toast is outstanding. They specifically bake “French bread”, which is only used for their crispy-outside, fluffy-inside French toast. You can walk there from Naha’s famous International Street. They are open from 7:30-20:00 and you can use their Wi-Fi while you are in the café!

C&C Breakfast- Naha
C&C Breakfast
At C&C Breakfast (where the concept is "Okinawa meets Hawaii”), you can taste Okinawan fruits with Hawaiian vibes! Their famous, original granola is healthy and tasty and you can try it on their acai and guava bowls. Besides these super fruit bowls, their pancakes are pretty Hawaiian and Okinawan too. Adding tropical Okinawan fruits on top of pancakes is definitely popular! Another popular item on the morning menu is their omelet, which comes with vegetables and will prepare you for a big day! They are open from 9:00-15:00 (last order at 14:00) on weekdays and 8:00-15:00 (last order at 14:00) on the weekends and holidays. They are closed on Tuesdays, so be aware of that when you plan your visit!

CC’s Chicken & Waffles- Chatan
CC’s Chicken & Waffles
An American owner and his Japanese wife run this shop. As you can see from its name, their specialty is chicken and waffles, which comes with a butter syrup that’s the perfect pairing! The golden combination of salty and sweet tastes will mean you never want to stop eating! The shop is on the bayside, so you can order their food to take away and eat it on the beach too! This place is pretty popular among non-Japanese people, so you might feel as though you aren’t even in the country while inside the shop.

A&W- Nago, Yagibaru, Makiminato
A&W
Okinawa is the only place where you can taste A&W burgers in Japan! There are quite a lot of branches in Okinawa - the Nago, Yagibaru, Makiminato, and Misato branches are all open 24 hours. There are not many restaurants where you can get root beer in Japan but here, they give you root beer and refills! Ham and cheese sandwiches, French toast plates and chicken teriyaki wrap sandwiches are popular items on their morning menu. They also have soups if you want to start your day with a hot meal! Their morning menu is available from 6:00-11:00!

The Rose Garden- Kitanakagusuku
The Rose Garden
The Rose Garden has been a hot spot in recent years. The building and interior ambience is inspired by American retro culture. Stylish local people and American people stationed in Okinawa often come here and enjoy brunch. Their eggs benedict and pancakes are both popular menu items. You might find that Japanese restaurants have small food portions but not at this place! You can get your stomach totally full here. In addition, you can have steak for breakfast, which is not usually what happens in Japan! You can also get American souvenirs, which are only available in this area where there are American military bases. It’s open 8:00-23:00 (last order at 22:00).

On Off Yes No- Naha
On Off Yes No
On Off Yes No is not a restaurant where you can get a full breakfast but it is the perfect place to start your day! This cold pressed juice shop serves Okinawan vegetables and fruits as a cup of juice!
Stop by and grab one of their smoothies, such as the Sweet Cloud, which is a blend of raw almond milk, cacao powder, and pink peppercorn.
It’s open from 7:00-17:00 but they close when all the juices are sold out. Mondays and Tuesdays are closed (except for national holidays on Monday and Tuesday), so don’t miss your visit! -

Pork Tamago Onigiri- Makishi Market
Pork Tamago Onigiri
Finally, we introduce Okinawa specialties for breakfast. If you’re in the neighborhood of Makishi Market (right near C&C Breakfast, actually), don’t miss the chance to catch breakfast at Pork Tamago Onigiri’s main shop. The shop’s standard issue onigiri is sandwich of nori, white rice, an omelette, and, crucially, a slab of Spam, a legacy of the occupation that ended decades after American troops given up control of the rest of the islands. Within the formal constraints of the Okinawan onigiri, Pork Tamago throws some curveballs, like bitter melon tempura, mustard green, and canned tuna, and other seasonal and distinctly Okinawan riffs.
