Originally established in the ‘90s, a partnership with the US-based company, Billboard, led to the creation of several unique cafes and restaurants built on the idea of introducing customers to music. They do this in several ways. The first is their collection of private rooms, called “Boxes,” where small groups of customers can choose the music they want to hear on the state-of-the-art sound system installed in the room. All of the systems are audiophile quality, so even the most discerning listeners can appreciate their music exactly as it was meant to be heard.

From 11am until 3pm, Billboard Live is open for lunch. For lunch, there are a few options available, such as fish, salad, and a spread of bite-size tapas. During lunch, the dishes range in price from around 1,500-2,500 yen. Cafe hours are from 3pm to 5pm; this is a great time to have a coffee or eat a late lunch, as their menu expands to include salad and pasta.

Dinnertime is when their menu really shines. While there are still salads and the like, the menu transforms to include options of a more gourmet variety, such as beef tendon stewed in miso and red wine with a poached egg on top. They also have less challenging dishes, like their salmon over multigrain rice, served with tomato cream sauce. Decadent desserts, like mixed berry French toast, and a variety of alcoholic beverages are also available at any time of day.

The interior of the restaurant is modern and comfortable. Reminiscent of modern Scandinavia architecture, this sleek cafe is a simple space with design flourishes from the wooden rafters. The restaurant seats about 100 people inside, but there are 36 terrace seats available if you want to look out over the park and the people walking along the street. On your way out, stop at their gift shop. The shop features music that’s played in the restaurant as well as books selected by a different curator every few months.
