If you really love chocolate, you should also head to Shiroi Koibito Park. The area not only looks like a fairytale village, but it is also home to one of Hokkaido’s most beloved confections – the Shiroi Koibito cookie. For just a few hundred yen, you can take a tour of the factory and see the production process from start to finish as well as various exhibits. On your way out, visit the gift shop to pick up some treats you can’t get anywhere else.

Rokkatei is one of Japan’s leading sweet shops. Rokkatei’s Maruyama location is the perfect place to pick up some delicacies for the road or to take back home as souvenirs. Their best-selling item is their butter sandwich cookies. These cookies are made with white chocolate, Hokkaido butter, and raisins; they’re the perfect treat to go with tea, as they’re not too sweet. They sell desserts and savory items in their cafe, as well as pre-packaged treats for travelers on the go.

From the outside, Space 1-15 just looks like a regular Japanese apartment building, but inside, you can find four floors of unique shops with a variety of handmade items. Space 1-15 features cafes, restaurants, clothing and accessory shops, and more; each of the 20 shops has something different you’ll want to see.

One shop in Space 1-15 is Takecha’s Records, a vinyl record shop with over 20,000 records on the 5th floor. It originally operated as an online shop for five years before joining Space 1-15. Japanese record collectors are known for going to great lengths to secure the best items, so if there’s a rarity you’re looking for, this is a good place to start. Space 1-15 is located outside of Nishijugochome Station in central Sapporo and is only open on weekends, so be sure to check this spot out while you’re in town.

There are other shopping plazas scattered throughout Sapporo. For instance, you can check out the basement of Akarenga Terrace Park. This underground pedestrian area has its own shops and also connects to various shopping malls throughout the area. There’s another underground shopping district, called Pole Town, which stretches 400 meters from Odori Station to Susukino Station. There’s a lot of restaurants and shops, so it’s definitely worth the walk if you’re looking for something unique.
