Also serving seasonal local dishes, it’s the perfect place for a quick pick me up while wandering the streets of Shimoda.

Cubstar

If you’re after a place with a more laid back contemporary vibe, you can’t go past Cubster, located just an easy five-minute walk from the heart of Perry Road. Influenced by more Western tastes this cozy café prides itself on producing some of the best coffee in the region. They also serve a variety of Panini style sandwiches catering to all dietary requirements. In recent years they’ve also garnered a reputation for creating some of the best French toast this side of Tokyo, so it’s worth saving some space for dessert. For dinner they offer a wide range of salads, pastas, and rice dishes.

One of the more striking establishments on Perry Road is Soul Bar located in the heart of the area. Endearingly ramshackle, this venue is all about the love of music. Playing host to a rotating roster of live bands, and boasting an impressive vinyl collection, if you’re even just the most casual music fan you can’t go past this place. As well as serving up delicious tunes, they also serve ice-cold beer and tasty bar style food. Just a stone’s throw from Soul Bar sits Page One, a slightly more reserved Perry Road contemporary. Run by a local couple this pizza and pasta restaurant is open for coffee, lunch or dinner from 11:00am until 8:00pm every day except Wednesday and Thursdays. Rather cozy (though that’s part of its appeal) there are only five tables indoors but if the weather is good it’s definitely worth sitting outside by the canal where you can take in the beauty of the area while you enjoy your meal. Whether it’s authentic mozzarella salad, a classic style pizza or a hearty plate of pasta, the welcoming staff at Page One will serve your meal up with a good dose of warm hospitality.
