Ogawa Ryokan
  • Straggling the line of retro old style and modern contemporary cool, Ogawa Ryokan in Shimoda is an ideal location to set up base when you’re travelling through the area. Founded in 1975 this year marks the hotel’s 42nd birthday and after all these years they’ve truly perfected the art of easy living while maintaining their authentic Japanese heritage. Featuring clean, minimalist architecture while still feeling welcoming, they’ve combined the best of both Japanese and Western styles to craft an accommodation experience like no other.

An easy 10-minute walk from the station, the Ogawa Ryokan is situated in the heart of Shimoda making it perfect for a day adventuring throughout the city or wider Izu. It’s also situated right near the famous Shimoda Bay, located in the south of Izu Peninsula. Because of its slightly more recent history and connection to Perry’s Black Ships and their American influence on the area, this bay has a flavor completely unique to many other coastlines in the area.
