Eating out in Arita means delicious food served on beautiful pottery. Local specialties include such delicacies as Godofu, a pudding-like tofu served with sesame soy sauce, and oven-baked Imari beef curry. You will get a chance to mingle with the locals at an Izakaya, or savour homemade sweets in good company. Here are some of the restaurants you do not want to miss.

Gallery Arita
At Gallery Arita, besides the mouthwatering dishes which include Imari beef curry and godofu sets, the experience is about eating from elegant ceramics taken right out of the gallery for customers to enjoy. The food is delicious and the pleasure of trying the works of art on the shelves is unique both to this town and restaurant. With a full stomach you can then move onto selecting a cup from the surrounding shelves for a post-meal tea or coffee.

This spot is perfect if you are craving japanese comfort food, a familiar atmosphere, or simply a place where you can relax with a few drinks after a long day of sightseeing. Kaden Symphony Gallery and Café
Kaden is an off-the-beaten path gem available to those willing to explore beyond the more popular destinations. You will find this gallery and cafe perched on a hill at the top of the Nakadaru District. Although Kaden is more a gallery than a cafe, the couple running it open their beautiful living room to serve customers exquisite homemade chocolate cake. As you savour this memorable treat don’t be surprise if the owners join in for a chat. In between bites you can also walk over to the gallery space where an exclusive collection of vintage Arita is on display. You are welcome to spend the whole afternoon at Kaden but keep in mind that hours of operation are irregular and it is best to call prior to your visit.
