Himeji Guest House Engakudou is a guesthouse in a traditional Japanese wooden house located a few minutes’ walk from Himeji castle. The dormitory is simple but clean, and provides all the basic necessities. On the ground floor there’s a lounge space with a huge collection of manga that that guests are welcome to enjoy. Dormitory beds start at 2,500 yen per night, with private rooms also available, albeit at a slightly higher price. If you really want to splurge, and stay at an extraordinary place, Yuyake Koyake is hard to beat. All rooms at this award winning high-end ryokan have their own open-air baths. The interior design is top notch, and some of the rooms come with hammocks and splendid views of the nearby garden too. It is located quite far from central Himeji though, so it is not the best option if you plan to do a lot of travelling back and forth between the city and your accommodation.
