1. Get off the train at either JR or Keihan station, depending on where you are travelling from. If you arrive at the latter, take a moment to admire the impressive station building, designed by architect Hiroyuki Wakabayashi. It was awarded the Good Design Award in 1996.
2. Take a walk over the Uji Bridge and enjoy the impressive scenery. This bridge is one of the three oldest bridges in Japan, believed to have been built in 646 by a priest from Nara.
3. Explore Byodoin Omotesando, with its myriad of charming shops, restaurants and teahouses.
4. Visit Byodoin, an impressive temple that is also a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and depicted on the 10 yen coin.
5. Head over the river again, but this time over the smaller red bridge that will take you close to Uji Shrine and the Genji Monogatari Museum.Tabibitoyado Kirinya Hostel in Uji
