Situated at the westernmost point of Honshu, Kyushu and Yamaguchi are renowned for their UNESCO-listed festivals, including the Yatsushiro Myoken Festival and Hakata Gion Yamakasa. In September, you can experience 40 different festivals from nine departments during the Matsuri in Kyushu event, which will be taking place in Kumamoto. See performances from the “Big Five” festivals that have been inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, with traditional costumes, vibrant dances and breathtaking floats.
