5 Newly Opened Hotels In Kyoto 2021

From luxury hotels to ryokan inns with onsen to rooms equipped with kitchens, hotel openings will surge in 2021 in Kyoto. Carefully building new hotels with the exterior that blends in with the historic landscapes of the city and Japanese style in its interior, more international operators of high-end hotels have been opening new hotels in the past years. According to the city, the number of inns and hotels in the city was roughly about 679, an increase of 23 hotels from the previous years. In such a town with plenty of places to choose from to stay, here are 5 of the carefully selected newly opened hotels in 2021, that might be of some interest to consider when visiting the area.

    Roku Kyoto, LXR Hotels & Resorts

    ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts is the first Hilton luxury brand hotel in Asia, which just opened in September 2021 at the foot of Takagamine Sanzan, about 30 minutes from Kyoto Station by car, outside the central part of the city.

    Surrounded by greenery, the hotel has an outdoor swimming pool with natural hot spring water that can be used all year round, the TENJIN restaurant that serves first-class French cuisine while enjoying the natural scenery, and a spa and fitness room.

    The Reign Hotel Kyoto: Recommended to Cyclists

    The Reign Hotel Kyoto opened in February 2021 is located at Jujo Station, the second station from Kyoto Station. This is a new hotel that opened in an area that not only has easy access from Kyoto Station, but also has the famous Kamo River flowing beside the hotel, offering both convenience and Kyoto-like atmosphere.

    Built on the site of a former art gallery, the lobby and restaurant of the hotel are decorated with Scandinavian interior design, giving a sense of high quality comfort in simplicity.

    51 guest rooms range from rooms overlooking Kyoto Tower, the symbol of Kyoto, to rooms that allow cyclists to bring their bicycles right into the room.

    The "breakfast" and "brunch" menus, which offer a buffet of traditional Danish dishes such as "smørrebrød" (rye bread topped with meat, fish, vegetables, herbs, etc.), Kyoto vegetables, fruits, and bread baked in the morning, are available to non-residents at a visitor's fee.

    Arashiyama House MAMA

    In Arashiyama, a popular area of Kyoto with its unique atmosphere of Togetsukyo Bridge and bamboo grove roads, the "Arashiyama House MAMA" started accepting reservations in May 2021. This one-house inn is located quietly at the foot of Arashiyama, and was renovated from a former recreational facility of Hankyu Corporation.

    The 10 guest rooms, all of which retain the good qualities of a Japanese house, are designed to best suit the individuality of each room, including rooms with hot springs, private gardens, and studies.

    The restaurant attached to the hotel, "As", serves soup with plenty of dashi (Japanese soup stock) and breakfast made with local ingredients only for guests. Lunch and dinner are available to non-guests as well, and you can enjoy Italian cuisine such as wood-fired oven pizza and pasta, which allow you to directly taste the deliciousness of seasonal ingredients.

    Fufu Kyoto: All rooms equipped with private onsen (hote spring)

    The Kato Leisure Group, which operates several small luxury resorts in Japan such as "Fufu Atami", "Fufu Kawaguchiko" and "Fufu Nara", has opened "Fufu Kyoto" in April 2021.

    MIMARU, an apartment hotel brand with kitchens in all rooms and suites of two bedrooms or more, has opened MIMARU Suite Kyoto Shijo in July 2021. This hotel can accommodate up to 10 people, and is recommended for families and groups.

    The "Mimaru Tool Shop," a collaboration with a tool shop in Kyoto, is a space like a select store in the lobby on the first floor where tableware and folk crafts carefully selected by Kyoto connoisseurs are displayed, all of which can be freely used in the guest rooms. All of these items can be used freely in the guest rooms.

    For example, if you are a coffee lover, you can use the coffee mill, brewing equipment, and even the perfect coffee mug in your room to enjoy a higher grade coffee time!
