Heavenly Chichibugahama Beach

Chichibugahama was originally known only to locals as a peaceful, quiet beach. When an incredible photo of this beach was featured in a photo contest some years ago, Chichibugahama's fate changed completely. With the help of Instagram, the beach has started attracting more and more visitors.

Regarding access to the beach, you can take a local bus or taxi from Takuma Station (JR Yosan Line). Alternatively, you can come by car and use the free parking lot, with the option to stay there along as you want.

When the tide goes out, many tide pools appear along the seashore. This is the perfect moment to take photos. When the sun is high, you can capture an identical image of the blue sky and ocean. At sunset, you can capture a mystical layer of the ocean with the amber-colored and blue sky.

Must not miss the instagrammable ripple patterns in the sand

The Mitoyo Tourism and Exchange Authority recommends that between 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the sunset is one of the best windows of opportunity for photography. During this time, the size of the tide pools gets bigger, as does the mirror image. If you're here with a model, a top tip is to let the model stand on one side of the pool with the beach in the background while you stand on the other side. From there, you position your camera on the edge of the water, so that you get a balanced shot of the water’s surface, the sky and the model. The tide rises quickly, so make sure you wear something to protect your feet.

There are a few cafes near Chichibugahama Beach, so you can stop and relax before or after your photoshoot. You can also find foot showers and air sprays to remove the sand from your body before heading to these spots.

The Chichibugahama Port is a tourist information hub operated by a local beach cleanup organization. Featuring a spacious, open wooden deck, visitors can enjoy an expansive view of the beach here while sipping on craft beers or non-alcoholic drinks. Some seasonal events, such as music concerts, movie nights, and candle light-ups also take place occasionally. This place is also equipped with a shower facility.

Soichiro Coffee is a charming coffee truck that connects tourists and the local community. The owner of this unique shop, Mr. Imagawa Soichiro, serves coffee in five different colored reusable cups. Each color represents a different request. For example, red means more beach clean-ups, white means more public seating, and black means more nighttime events. Mr. Imagawa says the request that gets the largest vote will get a priority in the local community and be implemented.
