    UNIQLO PARK

UNIQLO Park was specially designed to make browsing fun for everyone, especially for kids and their parents. This new store will be the brand’s one of the largest yet, housing both UNIQLO and its sister retailer GU spreading throughout different commercial spaces.
The first floor is the UNIQLO store where the theme is “LifeWear a concept which denotes high-quality, fashionable, affordable and comfortable everyday clothing” (CEO INSIGHTS p6 https://www.fastretailing.com/eng/ir/library/pdf/ar2015_en_04.pdf). Aside from expressing its theme with fashion, 10 to 15 different variations of fresh flower is sold at the flower shop to color and design “everyday life” as denoted in the LifeWear concept. The first floor is family oriented with kids play area with a pool of wooden balls made from woods gathered in Kanagawa prefecture. Children can learn about how UNIQLO is working on their sustainability through having fun playing.

The second floor is dedicated to GU items and the ceilings are designed taller with more space for mannequins to showcase different fashion styles. Unlike any other stores, there is a full lineup of GU shoes. “Visibility” is the key here and all the displays are said to incorporate the brand’s growth strategy of “3 Connect Declarations” where everything is more like in a “circle of life” starting from the voices of the consumer that lead to the creation of products by the producer who used the materials taken out from mother nature to give birth to the sustainable fashion items which is then bought by the consumer.

On the far end of the floor, adjacent to the escalator, there is an indoor play area for kids. The fitting room is family-friendly with one big room having enough space to put the stroller in with diaper changing station and a one-person couch, and the other three with just a cute carpet.

    Play Areas

UNIQLO PARK has different play areas spreading across the park and can accompany preschoolers to school-age children. Making the best use of the slopes that connect each floor, there are multiple play areas ranging from bouldering to slides to more, and all of these are accessible from each exit on each floor. There are signs on each of the play areas with a description of the age groups that are best fit for such play areas. For those above 6 and want to actively play, the rooftop on the 4th floor would be the best fit as there is a spidy jungle gym equipped with a trampoline in the middle. And for toddlers, the rooftop on the 3rd floor is their best choices.

These play areas are designed in collaboration with BorneLund, a Tokyo based toy company that focuses on education and fun. Their extensive knowledge of the benefits of play in child development made it possible to create such safe but fun, creative space for children to run around in collaboration with UNIQLO. Based on the concept of “LifeWear” proposed by UNIQLO, BorneLund suggested the idea of “PLAY FOR ALL” where they created a park with diversity and an area where everyone can come together for leisure time while having a fun time with their families playing with slides, trampolines, etc. at each play areas.
