Mo-Mo-Paradise: All-you-can-eat Shabu-shabu in Tokyo

The much loved Japanese shabu-shabu and sukiyaki specialty restaurant “Mo-Mo-Paradise”, which has been in existence for over 20 years in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho (and also has about 50 stores internationally, mainly in Southeast Asia), recently opened a new foreign tourist friendly store in Shinjuku Station’s East Exit area at the end of November this year(interestingly, “MO-MO” in the restaurant’s name is the way Japanese refer to the moo of a cow).

Mo-Mo-Paradise specializes in genuine shabu-shabu and sukiyaki with a refined taste that can’t be found elsewhere, and this newly opened branch has gained popularity due to one secret in particular, i.e. all-you-can-eat for 100 minutes!

The courses available are priced at 3000 yen, 5000 yen or 7000 yen and are split according to the grade of the meat.
Whilst you certainly won’t be left wanting by choosing the cheapest “Standard Course” as you’ll be able to enjoy various types of beef and pork, the recommended course is the “Upper Course” which features black cow beef, which will give you the rare chance to enjoy the taste of meat that is unique to Japanese black cattle.

Ready, set, go! All-you-can-eat for 100 minutes!

Once your order is complete, it’s time to start your 100 minute all-you-can-eat indulgence!
Let’s take a look at the shabu-shabu special course.

    All-you-can-eat Shabu-shabu

The staff will firstly bring the pot and vegetables to your table, and once the soup is warm they will bring the meat.
The staff is available to cook the meat for you, so please ask if you need assistance.
Of course, you have the option to cook it yourself if you are confident in doing so.

The main thing to remember is not to overcook the shabu-shabu i.e. swish the meat pieces lightly and slowly through the broth about 5 times.
Incidentally, this action of grabbing the meat with chopsticks and swishing it around in the soup-filled pan is known as “shabu-shabu” in Japanese-hence that term being used as the name for this particular style of cooking.

    Shabu-shabu

There are two types of dipping sauce: ponzu and sesame.
For the first taste of the meat we recommend the light ponzu, as the combination of the original taste of the Wagyu beef and the sour taste of ponzu is a definite winner!
Please enjoy the experience of eating endless shabu-shabu!

100 minutes might seem like a long time, but time flies by quickly so make the most of every moment i.e. once you’ve savoured the taste of the main meats, you can take a look at ordering other foods from Mo-Mo-Paradise’s side menu.

Amongst the side menu items, tsumire (minced meat balls) are a highlight, and you can you can choose from 3 types of tsumire (beef, pork, and duck), and mochi Chinese noodles are also a dish well worth trying!
The side menu items are included as part of your all-you-can-eat menu, so please enjoy them to your heart's (and stomach’s!) content.

You’ll be able to add various flavours and adjust the taste of the meat to your liking by taking advantage of the four spices available to you on the table.
Try adding pepper and other spices to make your meat taste even more appetising!

    【Recommended combinations】
Ponzu : ground pepper + chopped garlic
Sesame : ground pepper + chirizu vinegar (vinegar, soy sauce, chili and citrus juice)

Keep in mind that whilst the all-you-can-eat lasts for 100 minutes, the last order for meat and side menu dishes is 15 minutes before time elapses.
Be sure to get that last order in on-time so your stomach won't regret it!

Last but not least, don't forget your desserts, i.e. ice cream and sorbet, and yes they are all-you-can-eat too!
The four flavors are classic Japanese flavors (Uji Matcha, Azuki, Milk and Yuzu), and all are rich and delicious and all worth tasting.
    * Flavor varies according to the season.

You can also refresh by eating ice cream in the middle of shabu-shabu.
