Suzumushi-dera (temple) is a place where you can enjoy the sounds of suzumushi (Japanese crickets) all year round. The temple’s main Jizo statue (Buddhist deity) grants worshippers one wish each, and then he will visit their homes (he wears waraji (sandals) for this reason) – so be sure to give him your name and address so that he can come to your place! Kiyomizu-dera (Kiyomizu Temple) is the iconic sightseeing spot in Kyoto.
