This is a small bakery within an old traditional Japanese house, and is easy to find located just a short walk from Minamidera. The bakery has a collection of picture books which makes it popular with picture book lovers and families with children. The bread is prepared using specially made homemade natural yeast, and once cooked is put on display for sale with careful attention to its presentation. You can't eat in the bakery itself, but you can sit and eat on a bench near the store when the weather is nice.

The bakery is open from 8 a.m., but it’s a case of first come first served as the bakery closes as soon as the bread is sold, so get in early!

    Shimacoya

Located just a short 3 minute walk from Motomura Port, Shimacoya is a rather unique book café and guesthouse, where guests stay in tents inside the guesthouse. Shimacoya’s building is actually a renovated 120 year old Japanese house, and appealingly the interior stays true to the architectural origins of an old Japanese home.

Choose your favorite book from the bookshelf and enjoy a dream-like, relaxed space where you can chill out in a hammock whilst enjoying a sandwich!

During the night-time in your home within a home tent accommodation, you’ll be able to experience the tranquility of Naoshima, in contrast to the busier daytime vibe of the island.
