    Kitano Tenmangu Shrine

The Kitano Tenmangu enshrines the deity of scholarship known as Sugawara Michizane. Many who come here wish for academic success.

While the shrine is well-known for its plum trees, its autumn color season is absolutely stunning as depicted in the waka of Michizane.

The nighttime illumination of the temple’s maple garden is quite the sight. It is recommended that you visit early in the morning if you're thinking of avoiding the bigger crowds. The nighttime lighting takes place from the 9th of November to the 8th of December.

    Kinkakuji Temple

While the Kinakuji Temple is undeniably beautiful throughout the year, visitors can savor the captivating collaboration of its golden temple and vivid red leaves for only a short time during autumn.

The bright red leaves add further elegance to this beautiful golden temple. It gets extremely packed, so the best time to visit is some time early in the morning.

    Ryuanji Temple

The Ryuanji Temple was established in the Muromachi period when Zen Buddhism was flourishing. The internationally-renowned rock garden embraces various Zen teachings and principles while offering profound landscapes.

In autumn, the temple precinct is surrounded by red maple trees. The enticing red color is emphasized even further by the white pebbles resting in the rock garden. The rock garden becomes extremely packed, so we advise that you start your stroll from the Kyoyochi pond.

    Ninna-ji Temple

The Ninna-ji Temple is another popular autumn viewing spot (famous for its Omuro cherry trees). Along the approach to the Kondo (Main Hall), the red and orange trees will capture your attention. The views from the Goten (Palace) also provide a charming collaboration of autumn color with the glorious, five-story pagoda.
