15 of the best Halloween events around Tokyo in 2019

Kawasaki's Halloween event “Kawasaki Halloween 2019” is the largest in Japan. About 2,200 participants will be in the “Halloween Parade”, with around 120,000 people roaming the streets having a good time. This year, the band Tokyo Gegegay will be appearing on the first parade float leading the parade, followed by many DJs and dance performances.

There'll also be various events held at Kawa Haro during the event. One event that you can't miss is the “Halloween Award”! Judges will award the best costume participant a sum total of 500,000 yen of prize money!

After the popular parade every year, the after-party “Dancing Pumpkin” begins. It's a full-fledged Halloween night-time performance, so let's just hope you don't get scared too easily.

Also recommended for families & young children is the Kids Halloween Park. It's a booth where your kids can play in a safe and happy environment. “Kawaharo” is famous for its high quality of costumes, so don't be shy and try to dress yourself seriously!

In 2018, the Roppongi Halloween Jumbo Parade had over 100,000 visitors and was one of the largest events in Japan. The dates and courses for 2019 have not been announced yet, but in the previous year, people dressed up and did a 2km walk (course).

Tickets are required to participate in the main event “Rokuhalo Jumbo Parade”, so it's recommended to purchase them in advance. “Trick or Treat ticket (500 yen)” is a ticket you can use to get candy when you go to a collaborating store.

There'll also be a cloakroom and changing room at the venue so there's no need to worry about changing beforehand and having no pockets.

Many people think of “Shibuya” when it comes to Halloween. Even though there are no organizers or big events in Shibuya, youths from all over Japan gather here. The number of people tends to increase as the night goes on, so it'll become harder to move through the crowds as time goes on (policemen will be tending to the crowds).

A lot of young people will be dressed up here, but that doesn't mean you can't join in on the fun. Dress up and head to Shibuya to revel in the chaos!

Minato Mirai will hold the “Halloween Stamp Rally 2019” where you can participate in the Halloween lottery. Win gorgeous prizes by collecting stamps at three facilities. You can get sweets at each rally point, but a gift of assorted sweets will be given to those who collect all the stamps from all three facilities!

“Halloween Kids Parade” will be held on the 19th (Sat) which had a great turn-out in 2018. Small children in costumes parade the city of Minato Mirai together with an orchestra. Children in primary school or younger can participate. Participants will get a present of assorted sweets, so be sure to visit with the whole family.

At “Sanrio Puroland” you can see popular characters such as Kitty, Maimello and Cinnamon. It will be divided into two parts, "DAY" and "NIGHT".

In "DAY", the Lady Kitty House transforms into a space that looks like a beautiful doll house. In “NIGHT”, there'll be a “Halloween Party-Barmasque Ansoleslan” with the theme of “Masquerade” where you can join in on the fun. Fuji-Q Highland, famous for its screaming attractions, will be having an autumn season event “FUJI-Q Halloween 2019”. Each restaurant in the park will have a slightly real and grotesque menu that might make your skin crawl.

"Tokyo Disneyland" and "Tokyo DisneySea" will be holding "Disney Halloween" from September 10th to October 31st this year. During this period, you can enjoy the park as if you were one of the Disney characters.

This is a special event only during this period because you cannot typically dress-up completely in a full costume (it's against regulations). The event "Halloween in Sumida Aquarium" will be held from the 2nd of October until the 31st. At this event, the Halloween version of the jellyfish exhibition “Jellyfish and Halloween” will be available for a limited time only in the “Kaleidoscope Tunnel” (approximately 5,000 mirrors on the wall and ceiling).

On the 19th, 20th, 26th, 27th of October, the “Halloween Furnishings Parade” will be held for children so that they can parade together with the fur seals. Tokyo Skytree Town is having a “Halloween Family Parade” for parents and children. Walk around the Soramachi shopping street and Soramizaka Plaza where you can find 35 shops all with Halloween decorations.

“Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise”, is holding an autumn Halloween event “Akipara!” from the 7th of September until the 31st of October. It is packed with halloween performances that'll showcase sea island creatures.

The 4th floor of the Aqua Museum “Forrestorium” is decorated with Halloween decorations making for an unusual and gorgeous atmosphere. In “Forrestorium”, you can even witness them feeding the piranhas.
