Tokyo Disneyland

Amusement parks in Japan come in all shapes and sizes but Tokyo Disneyland is by far the most-visited. This year, the park is hosting Donald's Hot Jungle Summer from July 9th to September 1st. The highlight of this event is Oh! Summer Banzai! by Donald Duck and his friends, which includes colorful and exciting performances that will feature a lot of splashing water and fire effects. This 20-minute, nighttime performance will be at the Cinderella Castle stage.

During the daytime, you can meet Zootopia's two main characters at Judy and Nick’s Jumpin’ Splash at the castle stage. Featuring the movie's theme song “Try Everything”, this 10-minute show will include a lot of splashes to keep the audience cool.

Another nighttime event is the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights where characters from “Aladdin” and the “Toy Story” series will make appearances on floats covered by millions of colorful lights. This 45-minute parade will take place on sunny days, with a Nightfall Glow mini-parade on rainy days.

Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo DisneySea, which is situated adjacent to Tokyo Disneyland, will also host its summer event Disney Pirates Summer from July 9th to September 1st. The highlight of this event is the Pirates Summer Battle “Get Wet!” at Mediterranean Harbor. Featuring Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa, this spectacular performance includes pirate ship racing and plenty of water splashing. The 25-minute show will run three times during the day.

At Mediterranean Harbor, you can also enjoy Atmosphere Entertainment where guests can learn how to become full-fledged pirates.
The “Song of Mirage” is Micky Mouse and his friends' live performance show that depicts their thrilling quest to find the legendary city of Rio Dorado. This 30-minute show starts on July 23rd and can be seen at the Hangar Stage in the Lost River Delta.

At nighttime, you can check out the Fantasmic! water show at Mediterranean Harbor. Starring Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer's Apprentice, this cinematic show includes projection mapping on a shroud of mist, colorful illuminations, lasers, and fireworks.

Sanrio Puroland

Home to Japan's most famous cat, Hello Kitty, Sanrio Puroland is an indoor amusement park dedicated to small children and kawaii culture fans. Located in Tama City on the outskirts of Tokyo, this adorable amusement park also features numerous other Sanrio characters, including Gudetama, My Melody, and Pomu Pomu Purin.

Their summer event Puro Natsu Fesu Summer Festival 2019 is taking place from July 12 to September 1 when you can enjoy music, food and the beach all at once. The highlight of this festival is the “Puro Natsu Fesu LIVE!!!!” show, a performance of costumed characters with a mix of rock, hip-hop, techno, disco, and soul music. It includes plenty of audience participation, particularly during the call and response segments.

Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan is in Osaka City and is filled with various attractions themed around blockbuster Hollywood films and pop-culture characters from both within and outside of Japan. Their summer event for this year, Extra Cool Summer, is running from July 2 to September 1 and will feature numerous events to keep guests cool during the scorchingly hot Japanese summer.

Before you leave the entrance area, make sure you put your digital gadgets into dry bags to prepare for Extra Cool Crew's water attack, with crew members randomly walking around the compound with large water guns ready to fire at any moment. Minions Cool Fashion Show is a 20-minute event running three times a day that will also get you wet (and even a bit chilly), with snow, wind and water effects.

The ONEPIECE Premier Summer section of Universal Studios Japan will open from June 26 to September 29. As part of the Extra Cool Summer event, you can participate in the interactive "ONEPIECE Water Battle" show from July 2 to September 1 where guests can shoot water guns at “ONEPIECE” characters.

Huis Ten Bosch

Filled with Dutch canals, windmills, European-style architecture and flower gardens, Huis Ten Bosch ("House at the Bush”) is in Sasebo City, Nagasaki and holds the title of being the largest theme park in Japan. The highlight of their summer calendar is the "Hanabi World Cup in Huis Ten Bosch". During this competition, Japanese and international fireworks manufacturers will exhibit their finest work.

On July 13, the first 40 minutes will be dedicated to the preliminary competition and the remaining 20 minutes to a special display of fireworks accompanied by famous Ghibli music. Aside from another preliminary on August 10, you can also enjoy an exciting display combining fireworks, live DJ performances and colorful laser effects.

The final competition will be on September 21 when you can experience 22,000 fireworks. Even if you can't make it to these dates, you can still aim for October 12 and their autumn special fireworks festival, with 13,000 spectacular fireworks that will blow your mind.
