Orbi Yokohama in Minato Mirai
Orbi is a new kind of museum that lets you feel the wonder of nature in an indoor space. The exhibits are a fusion of digital content with real-world experiences, and there are plenty of chances to interact with actual animals. You can see things like capybaras, toucans, and armadillos in the Animal Garden, or pet 12 different types of cats in Cat Paradise. Then there’s the monstrous theater screen, 40 meters wide and 8 meters tall, that shows short films about the animal kingdom. Orbi is connected to Minatomirai Station on the Minatomirai Line, so you’ll skip the weather altogether.

The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse in Bashamichi
Back in the Meiji and Taisho eras, these buildings were Japan’s gold standard of warehouse architecture. Now, they’ve been renovated into multipurpose facilities housing cafes and restaurants. On sunny days, the expansive square facing the Port of Yokohama offers an exhilarating feeling of freedom, but when it’s bad weather out you’ll want to stick to the shopping inside. The nighttime view from the 3rd floor of the city lights reflecting off the wet streets is a priceless perk, though. The Red Brick Warehouse is 12 minutes on foot from Nihon-Odori Station or 14 minutes from Bashamichi Station.

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum
It’s a quick 5-minute walk through the rain to get to the Ramen Museum. Opened in 1995, the concept was to have the best ramen from all over the country in one spot, so you could get the noodles without the travel. Inside is a trip back to the Shōwa era, complete with retro buildings, neon lights, and grimy signs. The ramen is no joke, either. They have vastly different styles from locales ranging from Hokkaido to Kyushu, as well as candy shops and a few cafes. A warm bowl of ramen on a rainy day isn’t a bad alternative, and you can pick up a souvenir from the museum shop, too.
