How to use the N’EX ticket vending machine

When purchasing an N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket at Narita Airport, you can choose the time and seat for your departing ticket. However, you will have to pick the departure time and seat for your return ticket either at a ticket office or using the vending machine. Here we will walk you through the steps for using the vending machine.

    【STEP 1】
First, look for a “Reserved Seat Ticket Machine”. Of the many ticket vending machines you may find, this is the only type that handles N’EX reservations.

    【STEP 2】
Press the “NARITA EXPRESS” button (in red).

    【STEP 3】
N’EX offers Green Car (first class) and Ordinary Car seats. Green Car seats cost an extra 1,570 yen, and feature leather seats and footrests. Next, you will move on to the seat selection page but may opt out of this step. Keep in mind that if you choose to use a vacant seat in an Ordinary Car, you will have to give up the seat if someone with a reserved seat ticket shows up.

    【STEP 4】
    Select your seats.

    【STEP 5】
As you’ve already purchased a return ticket, you can skip the “Select a basic fare ticket” page by pressing the button in the bottom right corner.

    【STEP 6】
You will be required to insert your return ticket into the vending machine and it will print out your departure time and seat.

    Four Tips for taking N’EX

    1. N’EX platforms tend to be situated far from regular JR platforms in many stations. To avoid any last-minute hassle, it’s wise to go through the N’EX entrance 15 minutes before your departure time. We particularly recommend that you do so if you’re a first time N’EX passenger traveling with large, hefty suitcases.

    2. Check your ticket for the train number, which is displayed right below the date (the ticket above shows the train number as “NARITA-EXPRESS 21”). Then check the platform display for your platform number.
