    About Jiyugaoka

Back in 1927, for the first time a train station was built in Jiyugaoka. During that time, the station was known as Kuhonbutsu station which runs on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. 2 years later in 1929, the station was renamed to Jiyugaoka. Now the station is a major interchange station on Tokyu Railway as the intersection of the Oimachi and Toyoko Lines. The town itself is located at the southern end of Meguro Ward in a mixed residential and commercial district.

    Little Europe: La Vita

Just about 5 to 6 minutes from Jiyugaoka station, there is a miniature version of Venice called La Vita. It is a cozy piazza with several shops such as a leather goods store, a brand specializing in organic and natural products for pets, and even a hair salon. Because it looks picturesque no matter where you look around, it is not just popular among locals but also has often been used as a film set for various movies, dramas, and magazines too. There is a small canal, real gondola for only decorative purposes, venetian bridge, clock tower, all in an authentic Italian architectural style.

Kosoan is a Japanese tea house in an immaculate old Japanese house that you would most likely walk straight past if you didn’t know there was a teahouse inside. Visitors will take off their shoes upon entering the cafe as the entire cafe floor is covered by tatami mats. This cafe is a perfect spot to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon.

    Bread, Espresso & Jiyugata

Bread, Espresso & Jiyugata is a cafe that specializes in all things bread and espresso, as its name suggests. It is located on the 2nd floor of a shopping complex, Luz Jiyugaoka. There are two popular menu items, “Mu's Tiramisu” and the “Iced Cappuccino”. The “Mu’s Tiramisu” uses the cafe’s fluffy bread which is soaked in espresso and apricot liqueur. By combining these ingredients, the salty-sweet and chewy tiramisu are made. On the other hand, the “Iced Cappuccino” is a smooth blend of milk, espresso and ice which creates a cloud-like dome-top dusted with cocoa powder. Putting two together makes it insta worthy.
