ETC (Electronic Toll Collection)
Insert the ETC Card
1. After checking both sides of the ETC card and the direction in which it should be inserted, place the card into the holder firmly until the ETC card eject switch protrudes.
*Insert the ETC card so that the gold-colored square metal chip (front side of the card) is facing the upper surface of the ETC device in the vehicle. (Insert from the side with the metal chip.)
2. A blue or green lamp will light on the ETC device in the vehicle and you will hear a beep tone, followed by a recorded message in Japanese that reads out the ETC card's expiry date.
Pass Through the ETC Tollgate
Confirm the lane for ETC users.
Proceed at no more than 20km/h
Keep a sufficient distance behind the vehicle in front.
Check the toll
The toll is displayed on the roadside sign. Wait for the tollgate bar to open before proceeding through.
Please pay any expressway tolls (by using the ETC card) at the rental office when you return the vehicle. (Please hand the ETC card that you used, to a member of staff. The total amount will be calculated by means of a card-reading device.)
*If ETC card is lost, stolen, broken or deformed, customers shall be charged for its compensation.
*If the records of toll is unable to be displayed on the screen at the time of return because ETC card is lost, stolen, broken or deformed, customers shall be required to pay a deposit. If there is shortage or overage from the deposit, the balance will be charged or refunded.
