Okinawa Kunigami-gun Kin Cho Kin 245
This natural limestone cave is located in Kin Town, Okinawa Prefecture. Located 30 meters underground, the 270-meter-long cave is believed to be the birthplace of Okinawa's dragon god religion. The cave, which still retains several places of worship, is used as a natural storehouse for aging awamori. The storehouse even offers a bottle aging service. Customers can have their koshu (aged awamori) shipped to them after five, 12, or 20 years of aging. Tours of the storehouse are offered at 11:00, 14:00, and 15:30 each day. Parking is available.

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
