This bar is where you can taste seasonal seafood and local dishes from Ishigaki Island. Their tuna sushi, which is a set with two fresh otoro and chutoro tuna sushi each and a thin tuna sushi roll is recommended. Besides sushi, there is also a large number of a la carte dishes, and the shop requires a reservation. It is highly accessible because it is located within walking distance of the city area.

You must make a reservation. We were lucky to get one for 5pm the following day. We arrived before 5pm and there was a queue to get in!! It was an anomaly seeing such a long queue in a relatively...

Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave is a large limestone cave which developed naturally over a period of about 200,000 years. It has a total length of 3.2 kilometers, out of which approximately 660 meters is open to the public. The limestone cave which was created from coral reef has many highlights such as the “Suikinkutsu” (water harp cave) where you can enjoy the sound of water dripping and the “Totoro Stalactite” which is similar to Totoro. The inside of the cave has been illuminated creating a fantastic atmosphere. The tour of the caves takes about 30 minutes.

This was a great cave adventure, I was surprised how warm it was walking thru this cave. A nice long walk underground self-guided tour at your own pace.

This nature-rich park is in the center of Ishigaki Island and covers the entirety of Mt. Banna, 230 meters above sea level. It features open spaces that take advantage of the mountain topography as well as a walkway from which you can observe the subtropical wildlife—a hit with families. The “Emerald Sea Observation Deck” provides a sweeping view of the Yaeyama Islands, Taketomi Island, Iriomote Island, and the ocean itself.

We drove thru the park and stopped at a few of the observation towers to see the great view of the island. We took the Segway tour which was very interesting.

Although this popular Ishigaki beef barbecue restaurant is located just off the main street, it would be best to make a reservation. Besides beef ribs and tongue grilled on tabletop grills and specially selected steak and offal, their “yaki shabu” using high grade Ishigaki beef is popular. It also has Agu pork and seafood dishes.

Good quality delicious food for a reason price compared to other yakinikus. I dont eat beef but my husband enjoyed his. I got the pork you wrap in lettuce which was divine and we had some of the...

This gelato shop is located on a mountain where you can see the ocean around Ishigaki Island. It is very popular because of its lineup of tropical flavors using ingredients from the island that are also sold in the shop and fresh milk taken every morning. The view from the shop is amazing, and you can look out on seven islands from Nagura Bay in the morning. In addition, it is also possible to see the green flash phenomenon if you are lucky.

they had good gelato, not the best in my opinion but it was cheap! The view of the sea was pretty but its luck when it came to seeing a nice sun set.

Yukishio Saltworks on Miyako Island produces “snow salt” (salt in powder form) using salty groundwater pumped up from underground. Display panels explain the process of making the salt. There is a shop selling “snow salt” and products made using “snow salt.” The shop offers a number of unique products that can only be purchased here; the “Snow Salt Soft Ice-cream,” which is covered with “snow salt” in a variety of different flavors, is particularly popular.

Second visit. There are a lot of souvenirs made from the snow salt. They recently opened up a bread shop which you can eat together with the flavored snow salt. (my favorite one is the seaweed...

"This remote island belongs to the Yaeyama Islands southwest of Okinawa Main Island. It is located just east of Iriomote Island, and you can go back and forth between these islands on a water buffalo cart that travels across the long shallow sea. On the island, where there is a rich natural environment with lush subtropical plants, you will find the butterfly park, where you can observe pupa of Japan's largest butterfly ""tree nymph butterfly"" sparkling in gold color, a water buffalo pond where water buffalo rest, a bougainvillea garden, restaurants and shops as well."

We visited this small island as we were in Iriomote island. I think most of people participate optional tour but we went there by ourselves. To get there at first you need to move to the water...

This popular bar is where you can taste the amazing flavor of tuna. In addition to their otoro and chutoro, there are countless recommended items including gunkan-maki (oval-shaped sushi wrapped with nori seaweed) with tuna and sea grapes, lightly broiled otoro with ponzu sauce, and their sashimi of the day. Making a reservation is recommended because it is a popular store.

Based on ratings here and elsewhere online, we wanted to give it a try. Long line, couldn’t make it the first time and were told the waiting list was 34 people that day and the day after. The...

Maruyoshi Shokudo is a long-established Okinawan Soba noodles restaurant located on National Highway 390 in Sunagawa, Gusukube, Miyako-jima City (between the intersection of National Highway 390 and Prefectural Highway 190 and the intersection of National Highway 390 with the Prefectural Highway 201). The restaurant’s Okinawan Soba noodles, which combine a thick pork-based broth with a touch of garlic with noodles that are boiled to a firm consistency, have been popular on Miyako-jima for many years; the restaurant is also famous for the brown sugar ice-candy that is served after the noodles (in the case of small-sized portions of Miyako Soba noodles, only for children).

We were lucky to be the last customers! And so lucky we could eat their number one soba dish! Meat is very tasty and portions are very reasonable. Mainly occupied by local! We got to try the ice...

Founded in 1975, Takenoko is one of the longest-established Yaeyama Soba Noodle restaurants on Taketomi Island. It is also one of the most popular restaurants on the island, with queues often forming at lunchtime. The restaurant’s signature dish is Yaeyama Soba Noodles, featuring a full-bodied yet clear and uncomplicated broth. Takenoko also makes its own special “Kuchu” spice (Koregusu spice) using locally-grown red chillies, which is available for sale as a souvenir gift.

This canoe tour service offers canoeing experiences that convey the appeals of Ishigaki Island including its nature, environment, and lifestyle. The company was started by someone who moved into a house on the banks of the Miyara River after falling in love with Ishigaki Island. They boast a well-equipped shop located right next to the starting point of each tour. It features a parking lot, restrooms, changing rooms, heated showers, and a waiting area. They pride themselves on the quality of their service, which offers guests peace of mind. They warmly welcome beginners, single travelers, and even infants to participate in their tours, which allow participants to thoroughly enjoy the clear blue sea as well as the mangrove jungles characteristic of this tropical island from the seat of a canoe.

There are several companies offering Ishigaki Island kayak tours and I am not sure that this review is for the one we booked at the tourist counter on the harbour. It was called Eco Tour. Picked us...

This local restaurant was created by relocating various small and large kominka (old houses) to premises that are over one hectare. It can meet your needs from extravagant multi-course meals in a relaxing space like Yaeyama, to reasonable a la carte dishes and lunch. The restaurant also has a local cuisine building, teahouse, and gallery shop with Okinawan goods.

The restaurant sits in a culturally decorated site. The atmosphere was luxurious which was partly reflected in the price. Consider coming here for lunch which starts at 11:00. There are two set...

This restaurant specializes in American-style hamburgers. “Doug’s Burger” is made from Tarama beef produced on the Miyako islands, and the “Miyako Island tuna steak burger” uses yellowfin tuna caught from around the islands. Sides include “Doug’s tuna salad,” which is prepared with albacore tuna. The menu features many dishes that use local ingredients and can’t be found anywhere else. All items are free of preservatives, artificial coloring, and chemical additives.

This hot spring spa on Miyako Island uses water that gushes from 1,250 meters below the ground. It is a well-known spot that has been featured in numerous magazines and books. The facility contains outdoor baths, a pool, saunas, a cafe, and more, and both children and adults can enjoy themselves throughout the day. Hot springs are known for their ability to soothe neuralgia, exhaustion, and cold sensitivity. There’s also a “jungle pool” featuring natural spring water that both men and women can enter with bathing suits. There are waterfall showers, sleeping baths, cave baths, and several other varieties. Bathing suits are available for both rental and purchase.

This onsen was very clean and the grounds were beautiful. We just found that paying 1600 yen per person to sit in an onsen was a bit expensive. It would be worth a visit on a cold day if youre...

This latest popular spot on Miyakojima Island is where you can interact with rich marine resources. It is possible to observe and experience the underwater world wearing ordinary clothes in different ways every day with the changes in weather and ocean conditions. You can gain new discoveries and lessons by coming into contact with the current ocean world. The centerpiece ocean observation facility is spacious, and you can see colorful tropical fish, octopuses and sea snakes from the 24 windows that are 1.5 meters high, 50 centimeters wide and 12 centimeters thick.

Activities and costumes were fun. Fish were scant. Saw more in the lobby of the park. Atmosphere like the photo. Idea fascinating but unless youre going to snorkel, this was a good alternative...

Yonekoyaki Craft Center is a craft workshop located right next to Yonehara Beach on Ishigaki Island. The Center can be recognized by the huge Shisa (Okinawan lion-dogs) at the entrance. Within the Center grounds there are ponds and a stream, with colorful, characterful art-works scattered around. Inside the Center, a wide range of unique, colorful miniature Shisa statues are on sale, varying in size from Shisa so small that they will fit in the palm of your hand, to larger statues around 30 centimeters high; these make ideal souvenir gifts.

Our tour guide recommended my kids will love this place and took us here. He was 100% right about it. My kids were totally captivated by the colorful statues which keep us safe from the devil. Haha

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
