    Miyako Taiken Craft Village is located within the Miyakojima City Botanical Garden. Visitors can try their hand at one of nine different activities, including woodcarving, pottery-making, shell-work, making local cuisine, riding Miyako ponies, and making traditional Miyako-jima textiles, providing a rich and in-depth experience of Miyako-jima and other Okinawan handicrafts and traditions. Entrance to the Botanical Gardens is free; prices for Craft Village activities vary depending on the individual activity undertaken.

    空港に行く前の時間に尋ねました。熱帯植物園を回っていたら、時間が少なくなってしまいました。最低1-2時間とっておけばよかったです。シーサーつくりの体験などをやってみたかったと思います。どのような体験ができるか、写真撮れましたのでのせておきます。

It also has an ocean view restaurant which takes advantage of its position, a pizza shop as well as an ice cream shop where a salt ice cream using Okinawa’s sea salt can be enjoyed.

    This pottery, which specializes in Okinawa’s representative Yachimun-style pottery, fires its creations in a traditional “Noborigama” ascending kiln, which is very rare nowadays. It fashions many different items using this traditional method, including sake jars for holding awamori (millet brandy). It also hosts pottery classes in its workshop to spread the appeal of Yachimun, allowing visitors the chance to make plates, cups, handmade shisa (Okinawan lions), and more.     Churakaji Okinawa Art Experience is a hands-on studio where you can experience making various Okinawan arts and crafts without booking. There are plenty of hands-on options such as making Ryukyu glass and glass beads, painting shisa (Okinawan lions) or making a decorated music box, and the price is reasonable. Work you have done can be taken home with you. Glasswork and the trendy “EM ice cream” are also sold. The barrier-free studio is accessible for wheelchairs or similar.

    国際通り周辺を歩いていて、そう言えばガイドブックに載っていたような…と、入ってみました。シーサーの絵付等の体験が出来る店は他にもありましたが、こちらの、可愛らしい雰囲気に惹かれました。予約なしでもそのまま出来、同行した4才児も楽しめました。久しぶりに筆を持ち、絵の具を素焼きのシーサーに塗り、童心に返ったような気がしました。雨でも楽しめて、記念にもなりました。
