  • Hateno Beach

    Hateno Beach is located on an uninhabited island off the east coast of Kume-jima Island; the island actually comprises three beaches—Maeno Beach, Nakano Beach, and Hateno Beach—but the name Hateno Beach is used to refer collectively to the whole island. Pure white sand and crystal-clear seas stretch out for as far as the eye can see; the beach has been described as the most beautiful in all of East Asia. Visitors can enjoy swimming and paddling by the beach, snorkeling, beachcombing, etc. Hateno Beach is about 20 minutes by boat from the Tomari Fisharina marina.
  • Toguchi no Hama Beach

    One of Irabu Island’s finest beaches, Toguchi Beach is a crescent-shaped beach that stretches for 800 meters, with a gently shelving bottom and natural sand-dunes. The fine-grained sand and crystal-clear water combine to make this a very popular beach. There are two entrances to the beach, on the west and east sides; each of these areas has its own unique appeal. There are a number of restaurants and shops near the beach; toilets and showers are available. Beach equipment such as beach umbrellas, beach chairs, rubber swimming rings, etc. can be rented.

    This sunset beach is a beach with a gently shelving bottom on Ishigaki Island’s unspoiled Kuura Coast. The beach offers a long stretch of pure-white sand and crystal-clear water; at low tide, visitors can enjoy swimming or paddling. Sunset Beach is also a great place for snorkeling. A wide range of activities are available, and various types of beach equipment can be rented; there are showers, toilets and changing rooms (a fee is payable for using these).
  • Hoshisuna no Hama Beach

    Hoshisuna Beach (“Star-sand Beach”) features the star-shaped sand grains which are a famous Okinawa souvenir. There is an uninhabited island about 50 meters offshore, and some impressive coral reefs. The water is very clear, so much that individual fish can be made out in the shallows. The rocky areas are a habitat for large numbers of fish, making this a good place to enjoy snorkeling. The gently shelving beach is a safe place for children to play.
  • Tudumari no Hama Beach (Tsukigahama Beach)

    One of Iriomote Island’s best-known beaches, Tudumari no Hama Beach (Tsukigahama Beach) is covered with fine riverine sand, with hardly any stones, making it suitable for walking barefoot. It is famous as a great spot to enjoy the sunset, and many people can be seen strolling along the beach as the sun goes down. Due to the absence of coral reefs, most visitors come here just to enjoy walking on the beach, rather than for snorkeling.
  • Higawa Beach

    Higawa Beach is a crescent-shaped beach on Yonaguni Island. It is located close to Higawa Elementary School in the small village of Higawa. The beach is famous from having been used for locating shooting during the filming of the popular Japanese TV drama series “Dr. Koto’s Clinic.” The old clinic building used in the series is nearby, and can be visited (there is an entrance charge). Higawa Beach is a gently shelving beach with low waves, and is a popular place for swimming and paddling in the sea, or just strolling along the beach.
  • Hotel Moon Beach

    A resort hotel beach located in Onna Village, one of Okinawa's top resort areas, a five-minute drive from the Ishikawa Interchange on the Okinawa Expressway. Boasting a sweeping view of glittering emerald green ocean, as its name implies, this natural beach is shaped like a half moon. Open to non-hotel guests, as well, visitors can take in the tropical atmosphere. In addition to swimming, a variety of marine activities like jet skiing are on offer. On one of the particularly popular cruises, you can take in the ocean and the area's natural beauty from Yo Island, an uninhabited coral island amidst a coral reef.
  • Sawada Beach

    This natural beach was selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Beaches in 1996. Situated in the Miyako Archipelago known for its beautiful waters, this beach exceptional even among these islands. The translucent shallows have gentle waves through which large and small rocks can be seen in the water. At low tide the waters recede so far that, at times, shrimp can be caught by hand. The beach has free facilities for showering, toilets, and nearby barbecue pits. Considered to be the most beautiful spot from which to watch the sunset in the Miyako Island area, the subtly changing sky when the sun slowly sets below the horizon is enough to take one's breath away.

    This American-style private beach is located in Onna Village on the west coast of Okinawa’s main island. A cozy 300-meter stretch of sand surrounded by craggy rocks, the contrast between the white sand and the green turf is dazzling, as is the crystal clear sea. It’s also a popular snorkeling and diving spot.
  • Nakamoto Beach

    This beach, located on the west coast of Kuroshima Island, is known as a popular snorkeling spot. The surrounding reefs make it seem like a natural pool, and it’s perfect for sea bathing. The emerald green water is crystal clear and brimming with tropical fish and gorgeous coral reefs.
  • Ama Beach

    In the western part of Zamami Island is a beach that is registered under the Ramsar Convention because of its precious coral reefs. You may occasionally spot sea turtles swimming in the clear shallow sea. The sunset is especially beautiful, and many people come here just to see it.
  • Sukuji Beach

    Located in the northwestern part of Ishigaki Island, Sukuji Beach is easy to access from the popular Kabira Bay. The gentle sea is shallow off the shore and the water is so clear that you can see fish swimming from the surface. Bathrooms and showers are available, and the beach is especially popular with families. There is a good chance you’ll encounter mantas offshore, making this a prime diving spot.
  • Muruku Beach

    Muruku Beach, a natural beach, is maintained by Hotel Hamahigashima Resort and can be used even by non-hotel residents. The gentle, transparent sea is perfect for swimming, playing on banana boats and snorkeling. Toilets and showers are fully equipped so you can relax and enjoy marine leisure activities.
  • Tokei Beach

    Tokei Beach is located in the northernmost end of Kouri Island where it is said that the Gods dwell. Snorkeling is recommended at the beach where the pristine scenery is beautiful. Tokei beach has unique “pot hole” scenery where there are rocks with round holes dotted about.

    Okinawa Miyako-gun Tarama Mura Shiokawa
    This beach is located just east of Maedomari Port on northern Tarama Island, which lies between Ishigaki Island and Miyako Island. The beachgoing season officially starts at the beginning of April each year. Access to the beach from the island's urban area is excellent due to its location next to the port. Thanks to the island's small population of only about 1,000 people, visitors can leisurely enjoy the views of beautiful clear waters without many signs of human presence. The combination of the extensive coral reefs the surround the island and its long sandy beaches make the island incredibly scenic on clear days.
  • Furusato Kaihin Park

    This seaside park is located just west of Maedomari Port on northern Tarama Island, which lies between Ishigaki Island and Miyako Island. It can be conveniently accessed from both Shiokawa and Nakasuji, the island's two settlements. Its location along the road that circles the island makes it a great place to stop for a bit of fun while visiting other sightseeing spots on the island such as the Ungusuku Utaki sacred site and the Tarama Village Furusato Minzoku Gakushukan. It is included on the cycling route recommended by the local cycle rental service. The park features stone monuments and a shisa statue as well as covered rest areas with benches that offer great views of the clear waters that surround the island.

    This private beach located inside the Renaissance Okinawa Resort was selected by the Ministry of the Environment for its Selection of the Best 100 Beaches. In addition to swimming, guests can enjoy more than 40 types of aquatic recreation activities including diving, jetskiing, , flying jet board and snorkeling offered by the resort. There is also a dolphin program where you can swim with dolphins. Although use of the beach is free for resort guests, non-guests can also use the beach for a fee. The beach is equipped with a wide range of facilities including restrooms, showers, and lockers.
  • Maesato Beach

    This beach with blue ocean and white sand is located in Maezato, Ishigaki City. It is equipped heated showers, changing rooms, and other facilities. Parasols, deck chairs, and other items can also be rented by visitors. The beach is adjacent to ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort and can be used even by those not staying at the resort.
