Visitors to this theme park, one of the largest in the prefecture, can fully experience the history, culture, and natural beauty of Okinawa. There, visitors can enjoy seeing the Gyokusendo, called the most beautiful limestone cave in the orient. They can also try their hand at traditional handcrafts at the Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town, which is lined with old folk homes that are registered as national tangible cultural properties. Other attractions include the eisa dance performances and habu shows. The park also features a souvenir shop offering a wide range of souvenirs and even a craft beer brewery.

This place borders the line with animal cruelty. The water turtles are in is appalling and extremely dirty. Even the turtles dont seem to want to be in there. Snakes are kept in confined places and...

Ryukyu Mura is an interactive facility for Okinawan culture, arts and performance in Yamada, Onna Village, Kunigami County. Inside the park, there is a row of traditional Ryukyu houses, recreating the olden-day Okinawan atmosphere so it is often used as a location for filmmaking. There are various hands-on programs such as traditional craft making and attractions such as Eisa, an Okinawan folk dance performance. There are eating and shopping areas in the attached dome-shaped facility called “Okinawa Station Chanpuru”. One feature is that there are many things to do even on rainy days.

Its overpriced (compared to all other theme parks / tourist attractions in the same vein on the island). All the houses, artifacts etc. are old and dilapidated. It might have been great in the...

Neo Park Okinawa located in Nago City, the northern part of Okinawa Prefecture, is a natural botanical and zoological park. Animals and plants from tropical areas such as Central and South America, Oceania and Africa are grown without heat insulation by utilizing Okinawa’s rich climate and natural features. The free range farming method on the large property is like being in nature itself. You can enjoy an interactive animal experience unlike other flora and fauna parks.

I was excited to visit this place as i was looking forward to feed capybara. But, its totally not to my expectation. When we arrived, we paid for the tram ticket. So decided to take a tour ard...

This theme park sits in an area where local villagers rescued shipwrecked Germans during the Meiji period. In the center of the park is a full-scale replica of Marksburg Castle, where there is a floor open to visitors where they can learn about German culture. There’s also an exhibit dedicated to Gerhard Schröder, the former German chancellor who visited during the 26th G8 Summit held in Okinawa in 2000. One can also find a kinder house, which is German for “children’s house,” as well as several exhibits on toys and even two pieces of the Berlin Wall donated from Germany.

I didn’t bother paying the entrance fee to go in, just the exterior and lack of life was sufficient warning. This place really is a lost business opportunity, it has a great location, vast space, a...

This theme park combines facilities such as “Dino Park at Anettai-no-Mori,” the first facility in the prefecture based on dinosaurs, and the “Okinawa History and Folklore Museum,” where you can see valuable materials from Okinawa’s history. A rich variety of sweets line the interior of the large store, and there is also a parlor and restaurants where you can eat Okinawan cuisine and all-you-can-eat yakiniku BBQ.

This theme park features both a zoo and a facility for nurturing children’s knowledge and sensitivity. The zoo features over 200 different species of mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles that visitors can observe up close. Visitors can also receive opportunities to come into direct contact with some smaller species. The Wonder Museum contains workshops for children and hands-on exhibitions, allowing them to have fun and learn at the same time.

Located near the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, this butterfly garden contains a restaurant and Japan’s largest species of butterfly, the “tree nymph butterfly.” This massive area is a treasure trove of rare creatures, including Ryukyu tree lizards and the Polyura eudamippus, which has been designated a Natural Monument. The restaurant offers a splendid view of Minna Island and Sesoko Island as well as “gozen ryori” (“imperial cuisine”) that is prepared with an abundance of Okinawan ingredients. “Choju ryuhan” is a dish featuring rice topped with six different ingredients said to promote longevity and served with a medicinal soup. “Motobu gyugozen” features sweet, soft pork rich in flavor. Plenty of other local cuisine is available as well.

My tour group stopped here briefly for lunch. There is a lovely garden and butterfly greenhouse here. You can see the cocoons and several types of butterflies here. They have set up flower bouquets...

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
