A hot spring hotel located eight kilometers from the Kurino Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. Situated halfway up Mt. Kurinodake, this secluded hot spring hotel is enwrapped in the sulfurous smell of its spring. Facilities include the famous Take no Yu, a bath in which mud precipitates from its bottom; the murky Sakurayu bath; and a steam bath which makes use of steam from Hachiman Ojigoku. The Take no Yu’s fine mud and acidic iron-containing ammonia-sulfate spring waters are said to beautify and clarify the skin. The acidic simple sulfur spring waters of the Sakurayu are said to treat gastrointestinal disorders and nerve pain. The hotel offers lodging plans in its annex but the main building’s bathhouse is also open to non-guests and the facility makes a great day trip hot spring bathing destination. The hotel’s signature jigoku-mushi chicken is cooked with hot spring steam.

This high-class ryokan inn, one of the top ones in Kyushu, is the only non-train car lodging facility selected for riders of “Nanatsuboshi in Kyusyu”, the luxurious sleeping car train line to stay at. The inn’s bathhouse has five different indoor and outdoor baths which are filled undiluted from a hydrogen carbonate spring. Customers can relax in an outdoor bath and take in a stunning view of a mountain stream; the outdoor baths can also be reserved for a private session depending on the time of day. The inn also offers hot spring bathing only plans and hot spring bathing and lunch plans, making it easy even for non-guests to stop by and enjoy special hospitality tailored to their needs.

A long-standing ryokan inn, one of the top in the Hinatayama Onsen hot spring district. In addition to the guest rooms in the main building, the inn has five detached tea ceremony arbor-style Japanese rooms which emphasize elegance and taste. These detached rooms are also equipped with their own outdoor bath. The hotel’s outdoor baths, indoor bathing area, and dedicated outdoor baths of the detached rooms are filled from the Hinatayama Onsen hot spring, whose waters are said to beautify the skin and were a favorite of samurai Saigo Takamori’s. The inn’s bathhouse offers a full array of amenities, as well, making it a perfect destination for non-guests in the area who suddenly feel the desire to enjoy a hot spring day trip. The inn serves authentic kaiseki course cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from Kagoshima; the Japanese garden visible from the dining area is attractive on clear days but gains a particular elegance during rainy weather. The inn’s name means the “Field Crane Arbor,” and like the tired crane resting its weary wings in a lush field, customers can come here to relax and ease away their cares.

Kagoshima Areas

around-area-map

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinksーshochu.
