At this Kagoshima Eco Farmer-certified tourist farm, located a 20-minute drive from JR Kokubu Station, you can pick strawberries, grapes, and Japanese pears. The farm grows strawberry varieties such as Toyonoka and Sachinoka; picking is available from early December to around early May. The farm's Fujiminori and other grape varieties are pickable from early August to around late September, while its Chikusui and other Japanese pear varieties can be picked from mid-August to around mid-October. The farm also grows dragon fruit and chestnuts and offers a home delivery service.

    Kagoshima Kirishima-shi
A 15-minute drive from Kirishimajingu Station on the JR Nippo Main Line, this tourist farm is located inside Kirishima Shinwa no Sato Park, a large leisure facility. The park adjoins Roadside Station Kirishima, which is itself located on a rise near Kirishima Shrine. On the farm, visitors can enjoy blueberry picking from mid-July to around the end of August. Entry is free; you only pay for the amount you pick. The farm is open throughout the blueberry picking period, but it does close when forced to due to inclement weather and similar circumstances. The farm's shop sells jams and juices made using blueberries.

Kagoshima Areas

around-area-map

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
